This morning, we began our human body unit. As an intro to the digestive system, I gave them each a saltine cracker, and told them to think about what was happening to the crackers as they chewed it, after they swallowed it, etc. I referred to the cracker a few times throughout the lesson (your cracker moved down your esophagus, it is now in your stomach, next it will move to your small intestines...).
After taking a bathroom break in the afternoon, one of my students came up to me, and he was very excited to let me know that his cracker "came out."
