Their Republican counterparts could sense it, the way a crowd can feel the momentum shift in a Super Bowl game. Election Day, Dec. 6, broke sunny and clear. Intersections along St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans were lined with colorful campaign signs, the candidate’s name accented by a fleur de lis—the city’s emblem.
