    Hi There!

I am looking for some advice/ guidance. My school gave us Empowering Writers as an option to use for writing (However, as long as I am hitting the CCSS standards I can use any material I'd like.) I felt that although it was filled with useful information it was a little dry and the formats/activities were all the same and I could see my students losing interest. I have found a writing workshop bundle on TPT that addresses CCSS in Narrative, Argument and Informative with lesson plans that go through the steps to completing a piece of writing. I then found another seller with resources for Narrative and Argument that have mentor texts and aligned activities. Both have engaging elements that I know will keep my students excited about writing. I have about nine weeks to focus on each set of writing. I would like to buy both with the idea that I can use the bundle to teach the lesson and then use the resource set and pieces from Empowering Writers as added practice. My concern is that I will have TOO many materials to use or can you never have enough? Any advice or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated :)

In my opinion, it's always better to have a wide selection of resources from which to choose rather than not enough. What might happen is that as you begin the units, the students' own strengths, needs, and interests may guide you into some content that you hadn't planned on using. Better to have it than not.

I pull bits and pieces from several places as there is no one perfect resource. Just don't get caught up in thinking you have to every piece of every resource!

Purchase those materials as you see worth in them as to improve teaching your students. Supplement with what's good from your district supplied resource. You are doing what you know works for your kids: engagement, meaningful mentor texts and a respect for who your kiddos are as writers and learners.

Can you please tell me the exact names of the 2 different writing resources you purchased on teachers pay teachers? I'd love to check them out. Thank you.
