HI, This is my first post. I am currently a sub in NJ. I graduated with a BA in economics and finance. I decided that I would like to teach math as it is one of my strong points (straight A math student).

Here is my problem: I took calc in HS, but that was about 5 years back. In college, I took some stat courses. Many courses in my two majors were algebra intensive, but my calc and trig skills have fallen to the way side.

I took the sample ets test and got about 50% correct. The state deems the passing score to be 131. How many need to be correct out of 50 questions to get a 131?

Can anyone suggest a good study guide/course/etc.? I still have my HS pre-calc and calc notes and a calc book. What are the main trig, calc, and discreet topics on this test from anyone who took/passed it? I would like to take the test in early Jan. 2006, so that gives me about 2 months of study time and a second chance to take the test in April before the summer NJ Alternate Route program begins. I need to pass this test to get on with my career.

BTY the test is a Praxis II (0061)

Thanks so much for any help.

Never mind my first post. I called the licensing center in NJ and i can't be a math teacher since I don't have 30 math credits. Luckily for me there is an endorsement for a business teacher in finance and economics (my two majors)! The test worries me a lot less now. I'm pretty sure you only need 80 of 120 multiple choice questions to pass. Since my GPA was greater than 3.5, I can pass with 5% below the normal passing grade. 76 of 120 is definitely do-able.

To cover bets, you might want to look for SparkCharts (Barnes & Noble's nifty cram sheets) on finance, business, marketing, economics, and the like. They'll be at Barnes & Noble near the test preparation materials.

Prep material for Praxis II 0061 math content knowledge

    Hi everyone,

I'm planning to take the 0061 math content knowledge Praxis II in March and am looking for prep material focusing on calculus, linear algebra and trig. I have already taken the middle school math test and have done well, so I'd like to spend most of my time on the advanced subject matter that is on the 0061 that wasn't covered in depth on the 0069. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

mathteacher2B, let me invite you to browse among the posts and threads for CSET Math. Between them, innovationguy and Malcolm have posted a slew of fine resources.

    Hi TeacherGroupie,
Thanks very much. I'm not familiar with the CSET so I hadn't looked at those posts/threads. I'll do so now and trust I'll find some good sources. Thanks!

No worries, lucianamelo. I would expect the Praxis II Math and CSET Math to cover at least some of the same territory, even if they differ in format and emphases.

Hey Teachergroupie, might you know which type of graphing calculator is required for the Praxis II 0061 exam? You seem like you have some experience with this stuff:)

I noticed in one of your previous posts that you took the Praxis II Math 0061. Can you suggest a graphing calculator for the test? They do require one, don't they?

Hi Teacher2B, I am taking the Praxis II 0061 in March as well and I am stressing out over the graphing calculator that they request. What might you know about this calculator? Did you buy one for the test? If so, might you be able to advise me as to which one you suggest? I never used one of these before, it is bad enough I need to review all the stuff I learned in school for this test. Now I have to learn how to use this calculator:)
