Depending on my classroom size and wall space, I think I would really like to use a "word wall." Does anyone use these at the high school level? My subject is Biology and science in general has so many vocab words, I want to do something interactive with my students. I wasn't sure how to go about making and implementing a word wall until I read an article in The Science Teacher journal. What the author did was have the students get in pairs/groups and use large manilla paper to write the vocab word and draw a picture on one side (large enough for anyone in the room to see) and on the back (but upside down) write the definition. That way when placed on a wall, the students can flip up the paper and read the definition. Does anyone use a word wall and how does your operate?
