Timing/Pacing help-Midterms

    Looking at the calendar, midterms are sneaking up on us. In addition the chapter we are on is taking a little bit longer than expected. So right now I feel like I'm stuck with three possible options

    1. Give the test at the end of the chapter, but this would only give us a few days to review for midterms

    2. Put this chapters test within the midterm itself, and not have a separate test for this chapter.

    3. Pause the chapter at the end, not have this chapter in the midterm, and then review and give this test after the midterm.

    I'm leaning towards either 1 or 2, but three is an option as well. Looking for advice from some more experienced teachers.

    I am not an experienced teacher but here is what I think. How many days do you need to review for midterms? I do not give midterms but I took them in middle/high school and we only reviewed for 2-3 days. If 2-3 days is sufficient, I would go with #1.

    I think it might be confusing for the kids to have the test after the midterm. I would go with #2 if you need more time to review.

    I am doing #2 for a couple of my classes. It just makes more sense than having a test and then mid term right away.

    Personally, I would give the chapter test and consider this the mid-term exam. This is what I would personally do, but I understand this is most likely not practical.

    For your situation, I suggest eliminating the chapter from the mid-term exam is a great idea.
    Another option would be assigning both tests. However, maybe the chapter test could be shortened. The mid-term exam could also be a quiz grade, instead of a test/exam grade.

    We have a school policy that material covered in 1st semester cannot be included on 2nd semester exams, with the exception of things like literary terms in English, which are reviewed throughout the year. But, we still have to show where we reviewed/retaught that skill in 2nd semester if asked to do so. Also, our midterms are required to be a cumulative exam. There is very little that we are sortof micromanaged about as far as curriculum, and I like that we have clear policies about this across all courses and departments.

    I would do a test now, then the midterm.
