Tomorrow I am subbing for a 5th grade classroom. I have had experience in every grade level except 5th grade. Little nervous and not sure what to expect with these kids. Any tips for subbing in a 5th grade classroom?
There is no need to worry. Fifth graders are very similar to fourth graders, expect 5th graders may be a little more independent.
I subbed 5th grade and also taught that grade. I must admit I enjoyed teaching it more than subbing it. My sub experiences in 5th got much better the more I subbed. This time of the year, they are a lot like 4th graders near the end of the year. They can be very social, but that can lead to working very well in groups. All I'd say is get there a bit early and make sure you are well prepared for the day. If you are on your toes, 5th grade is a great place to be.
I was just going to say that 5th graders are still very 'young' at the beginning of the school year. Just wait until after the winter break. Sometimes, they seem like different kids! How did it go, Caitlin?
