It used to be common in our area preparense to rent hotel rooms and host birthday parties. They would take the kids to the pool to the gym and have big parties in the room. I was always shocked that someone would do something like that because I was thinking about all the other guests and how noisy that group would be

I think it would especially be a good idea if the hotel had a pool. At least you'd get your money's worth! Also, if there was a concert or event held at the hotel (we have a big hotel/conference center in the area) then I'd stay overnight just because it would be easier than driving home after the event in case anyone I was with was drinking, etc. even though it's only about 10-15 minutes from my house.

We don't stay in a hotel in our hometown. When we first moved here I thought about it because we had 3 kids still living at home and they knew nobody they could hang out with. Nowadays we do stay in a hotel when go visit our oldest daughter. Their house in under renovations, although big enough they just don't have enough beds for us. We go about once every three months.

IMO I love staying in mid-range chains in really generic places. Eating dinner at the hotel bar by myself, hanging out and people watching after with a few beers ...I'm not even kidding. I have just booked a hotel in the neighbour town through booking site and going to have much fun

My DH and I do this sometimes. We have stayed at local hotels for a night or two for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, New Years. He is great about finding deals so we try to stay downtown at boutique hotels or close to the venues with lots to do. It's nice to get out of the house even if you can't get out of town.

Last weekend I stayed at a hotel (visiting friends out of state) and I fell in love with their pillows! They were so squishy! I thought maybe if I bought them I'd feel like I was at a hotel every night LOL
The tag says they are from WantThisPillow.com

We stayed at a hotel a couple of years back where the owner was a guy who had made his money selling beds (big time). He had equipped the rooms with top of the range mattresses. Our sleep there was so good we went to one of his stores and paid out £1600 ($2100) for the same mattress for home. Not regretted it.

I love staying at hotels just to enjoy the hotel. To me staying at a hotel when we are away and doing tourist things seems such a waste of the hotel room - so I'd rather camp or stay at an inexpensive hotel when I'm going out to do tourist things and stay at a high end hotel when my plan is to go into the hotel on Friday and not leave until Monday - use the pool, the restaurant, etc - but just enjoy someone else looking after me.

Already got my room booked for when we finally get out of that place. The joy of laying around and waddling around in that huge king size bed with no children, no co workers, no preparing lunch, no annoyance, oh I just can't wait.
