Hi all: I am a new aide in 2nd grade, the teacher is also new to 2nd grade (she taught preschool before). Whenever the boys get a chance, they talk of farting, butt, poop etc. If the teacher hears them, she will give them a look or just say,"it is inappropriate" and then move on.
So I also do the same, just remind them this is "inappropriate."

My question is: as a p/t aide, do I have the authority to do more than this? What else can I do to cut out this kind of talk? The teacher says I can move the kids' cards to yellow (red means parent gets a call). However, the kids always get a chance to get back to green cards and all is well. So the kids know there is no real consequence to inappropriate talk.

Is this a boy thing and will this pass as they grow older? How do you all handle this? Am I being too sensitive about this? I have been a sub the past several years where I did not have listen to this silly talk day after day after day.

Thank you so much and have a great Thanksgiving!

This is a phase. They grow out of it, but not in 2nd grade! Simply keep telling them it is not acceptable for classroom talk, and change the subject. If you give them a reaction, they will feed off of that and keep going.
