    Hey there,

I am scheduled to take the 5081 praxis in Social Studies. I am currently a teacher's assistant in a middle school in my current city schools. My question is if I choose to stay in middle school would I have to take the 5089 praxis or will the 5081 test suffice? Does 5081 work for both middle and high school? Or are they 2 separate tests for two separate age groups?

    Thanks in advance!

How did you know to sign up for 5081 to begin with? Before you test, look up your state's requirements, preferably on your state's teacher-licensure webpages rather than on Praxis's pages, to ensure that you're taking the right test.

If your state offers a distinct middle-school social studies license alongside the high school license, you might need 5089 rather than 5081 - or you might find that holding the high-school social studies license also authorizes you to teach in middle school. The high-school license might also increase your marketability by giving you a broader span of grades in which to teach.
