what could be an open ended question that could be used for a picture of lollies in a bowl that have 6 red lollies, 4 green, 2 orange and 2 yellow. i was thinking, if all of these were put in a bag would if be likely, not likely or impossible that red would be picked? name something else that is likely to happen to you?

You could have students draw bowls of lollipops in which: Choosing a certain flavor was certain Choosing a certain flavor was impossible Choosing either of two flavors was equally likely.... Is this part of your assignment that you discussed in your restaurant menu math post?

You could also include a little "general knowldge" and ask about the probablility of getting a primary color... not sure whether your kids are familiar with that term yet. Or the probability of getting a color that begins with a vowel. Or a color that has more than 3 letters.

Could do some addition / subtraction questions: How many more lollies of each color would you need to add (or take out) to make all colors even?

The OP seems to be working on a culminating project. I'd be interested in hearing what she has come up with on her own.
