Why was MPK's thread closed when there was nothing wrong with it? Does it get closed automatically after a certain number of pages? All of a sudden I was reading and "bam", closed. For what reason? Just curious because there was nothing bad about it, no heat, nothing, IMO. I'm a bit confused. Ok, I realize that's not hard to do :haha:, but please do explain.

I think because it was over 3 days old.

Debates & Marathon Threads (3 Viewing)
Debates and threads that go longer than 5 pages. (Threads are automatically closed 3 days after the thread is started.)

It's not something that any of us have control over... it's an automatic script that's been set up. You're welcome to start a new thread if you like, though ;)

I still don't understand. There are many threads that have lasted much longer than either of these.

I can see closing it if things get out of hand or when there isn't a response within a certain time, but not closing it automatically within a few days though. :( JMO.

This is new. Amanda created the new forum recently. Long threads and hot issues can be automatically sent to it and will be closed after 3 days.

Make Part 1, Part 2, Part 3...every time it gets over 3 days and is moved. See there is a way around it!

Please read this for more info:

This is still in the testing phases. I am still trying to make sure the automated moving is working correctly.

It's perfectly fine to start a new thread if the topic warrants it.

Once a thread goes past 5 pages, the discussion becomes disjointed. Even in the rare case it doesn't get hijacked by meaningless discussion, we often end up with posters who are still responding to the first post when there are 4+ other pages of posts that were never read. If it's a topic that needs further discussion, and not just a heated debate, re-open it where it left off.

When the thread is moved, you'll still be able to reply until it is closed. It won't be closed until around 12 am when the forum does its run through. The thread is archived there so you can still view it.

ChitChat threads are not affected by the length limit since it is the place on the forum reserved for off-topic blah blah blah. ;)
