Hi! I will be teaching Kindergarten for the first time this year and was wondering...........When introducing a new letter or number to the kids,,are there any chants or little songs you sing while you are writing the letter or number to show them the formation of what you are writing? I knew a teacher a long time ago who sang a little song for each letter she introduced that was very catchy and helped the kids to remember how to write the letter. I don't know if she was just coming up with them on her own,,,or if it was something she learned from somewhere. Any help would be appreciated. :)

That site Princessa gave also has letter chants. The only one I know is to the tune of If You Happy and You Know It.
    :clearing throat:
If you want to write a letter start at the top
If you want to write a letter start at the top
It you want to write a letter then you better better better
If you want to write a letter start at the top.

Put each one on a 3 x 5 card and just pull it out when you need it.

I'm going to try to have a "recipe box" type file of little songs, etc. that I can grab one out when needed.

I love the recipe box idea, Time2teach. I have to say that I never seem to remember these types of songs during the year. Hopefully with this idea I will remember to use them.

The recipe box is a good idea, but I put songs, ideas, etc. on the index cards that are spiral bound at the top. Just easier to keep on hand and use while I'm teaching.

The same letter chants are also in a great book called "I Can Write My ABC's Mini-Books ". I use these reproducible mini books in my classroom all the time and the kids love them. If you look on Amazon, it gives you samples of the books.
