I have an interview coming up for a lead teaching position at a HeadStart in the Montgomery, Alabama area. I recently graduated from AUM with a bachelors in Education and will be dual certified in Early Childhood Education & Elementary Education. This will be the very first interview I have had since graduating from college. Is there anything I need to know in order to prepare for the interview... possible questions that may be asked? It will be in front of a committee. I have researched the mission statement, philosophy, and curriculum they use but I also heard that they mainly ask "what if" questions. Any help would greatly be appreciated and I hope I can truly get this job because I think what you all do is amazing as teachers at HeadStart. I want to truly make a difference.

I taught Head Start for the last 3 years.
It's going to be hard and it involves a lot of paperwork.
Hopefully the one by you follows the district schedule so you get breaks!
There are some that go year-round and function as daycares too.
This prob didn't help you at all :p
    Good luck :)

Thank you for commenting and it did help. I now know what I will be getting into. Do you remember what kind of questions they asked you or is it something that I should be able to manage from my time teaching while at AUM... just be honest and real right? Thanks again!

Lead teaching position for a first job? The “what ifs” come with experience I’m afraid....

    Here are some I remember:
-What would you do if you went on a home visit and everyone was in pajamas and the house was a mess?
-What would you do if a child told you he was spanked with a belt?
-What would your classroom look like?
-What would your daily schedule look like?
-Do you have experience with children who don't speak English?

I taught for 5 years in an affluent area before going into Head Start, and it was different than anything I'd ever done. Even though I had taught Pre-K before, the Head Start kids were at a completely different academic, social, and emotional level, so it felt like a brand new job & age group. Everything I learned there could not have been taught in school or from previous experience unless you worked with a similar population.

I have nothing useful to say, just hello! I bet we walked at the same commencement, as I just graduated from AUM in secondary math. I hope your interview went well, and good luck!
