I said that because everyone keeps bringing up the past records, that's all.

And the shirts about cheering for teams who beat the Yankees are a joke. It's a rivalry thing.

    Anyone else read about this??

This was part of an article I just read:
Are the Yankees playing to save manager Joe Torre's job? Apparently so, after owner George Steinbrenner was quoted as saying, "He's the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think we'd take him back if we don't win this series."

Kind of rough, don't ya think?

Steinbrenner's always been rough. Don't you remember the Billy Martin/Steinbrenner goings on in the 70s? Great book: The Bronx is Burning- was just a miniseries on ESPN.

No manager in baseball has it as difficult as Joe Torre. Steinbrenner takes the fun out of being a Yankee fan with his win the World Series or the year is a failure. It isn't Torre who has stopped hitting in the last three playoffs. This is not the pre 1969 days. nobody can win every year in the current playoff system.I don't think winning 94 games and a playoff berth makes you a failure.

Well, exactly. It's not the manager's fault if the team isn't hitting well. I feel bad for him He's been with them for what? 11 or 12 years? It's really not fair to blame it on him.

I would take Torre as my manager ANY day. When the Sox received their rings in front of the Yankees in 2005, every Fenway Faithful gave Joe Torre a standing ovation (as well as Rivera...hehe) during the Yankee lineup announcements because they know that he is a class act and the best there is. It would be hard to fire Francona and replace him with Torre after this year, though. Especially now that we swept the Angels!!!

Oh, no. I definitely wouldn't want to see Terry go, but should he ever leave on his own accord.... ;)
I just really think it's unfair for them to put Joe Torre in this position.
