How are you studying for it? There is a site called, FTCEprep.com, where you can purchase 'reading tests." The best thing for reading is just, practice, practice, practice. They are expensive...about 10 reading tests for $80. But it will give you practice, and that's what you need.
    Good luck

    FTCE GK Exam stats:
Since April 2015, the PearsonVue Testing has changed their testing. Before 4/2015, the passing rate was 92-97%. After 4/2015, it dropped dramatically to a sad 68%. Good teachers are now struggling with trying to pass and are shelling out a lot of money to do so.
QUESTION: Why would an English teacher, from another state, with a Masters degree in English and a BS in Mathematics fail this test 4 times? Corporate greed.

    How's it going, Mikki?
Did you take the test again?
Teacher Groupie suggested an excellent book called "Reading Comprehension in 20 minutes a Day." I've seen it online, IT'S EXCELLENT! If you really need thorough, quick training in passing a reading examination, this is the book to get!
LOTS of practice with every short, concise chapter.
    Try it.

Try the "Reading Comprehension in 20 minutes a Day" that Teacher Groupie keeps recommending. Its excellent. Math, however, is another issue. See what other's have used, and then try it.

There are several websites like FTCEprep.com that may help. But, another option is to bypass Florida's basic skills test requirement by obtaining your credential online through another state, like Texas, who doesn't have a basic skills test prerequisite. All states are different, some require a basic skills test, and others do not.

Texas' alternative credential programs only require a Bachelor's Degree, and a 2.5 GPA.
NO BASIC SKILLS TEST REQUIRED as long as you already have the bachelor's. Of course, once you finish their program (in about 6 months), you will have to pass the content exam., then you can transfer your TX credential over to Florida.

The California basic skills test (CBEST) was easy-peasy, I thought. But, when I took the basic skills test for Florida, I was STUNNED at how DIFFICULT it was compared to California's., especially the math portion.

Even the reading subtest--in my opinion--is doctorate/grad. school/research level reading---VERY DENSE material. I found the articles hard to follow and comprehend, and worse, the questions seemed designed to confuse. I was very frustrated by it, and needless to say, I did NOT pass.

So, good luck, and keep trying.

Janley, some people are singing the praises of Navaed.com
Supposedly, these test prep CDs are by an educator who personally takes the exams to see what's on them, and then creates a study guide to help others pass.
    Good luck.

I studied each competencies one by one. I also requested a paper test and extra time.
