I never realized how frustrating it would be to change districts. Let me explain...

My last day with this school/district is May 17th. Which also happens to be graduation and in 3 weeks — highly intentional I'm going out with my seniors. My paperwork is done with HR. I've had my exit interview. They'll already deleted my account to approve grades — I can add them but not approve them. They've even suspended my email account — it's still there but I can't send/recieve emails. And yet... I'm being forced to sit through stupid mandatory meetings for next year, PD days over the summer, the band trip over the summer, blah blah blah. Why? I've been told my opinion is still valid and appreciated.

For all intents and purposes, I no longer work here....and you still value my opinion?? *barf*. Okay that's the end of my rant.

Don't know how they can force you to attend anything after May 17th.

Not things after, the staff meetings before May 17th regarding things coming afterwards. I haven't really figured out exactly what they'd do if I just didn't show up.

But still, I don't see the point in being forced to attend the meetings about those things that are happening after May 17th. Aside from calling my new district and being petty what exactly are they going to do?

Did you ask if you had to attend the meetings?

There's your problem. Biggest life lesson I've ever learned. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.I just wouldn't have gone, and they probably wouldn't have noticed. If they asked me afterwards, I would just tell them "sorry, I didn't think it applied to me".

I mean. There's like 7ish more meetings. I think you're right. And honestly? There's only three things I'm worried about: 1) collecting my paycheck for May; 2) final grades and exams; 3) getting my seniors across that stage. Everything else? I'm backing away. Closing up shop. Tying up loose ends.

The meetings are still part of your contracted duties until your last day. Go to them with a smile.

Yes, they are. However, wouldn't it make more sense to excuse me of those duties as my contract is termed 17-MAY-2019 -and all of those things are after that date? It's like paying someone to go to training for a job function they're not going to be there to do.... In some of these meetings they're discussing scheduling and who will be doing what. Wouldn't it make more sense to remove values from the equation which aren't applicable?

You said it yourself. You are being paid. Do what is required while you are under contract.

The meetings are required for all, you are part of all for now. This is a perfect opportunity for you to demonstrate those leadership qualities that helped you gain an administrative position. Whining about attending meetings and looking for ways to not do required parts of the job is not how you want to end your time in your current role. Go out with dignity and keep your reputation for being professional intact.

If I were switching jobs and I already accepted a job offer elsewhere, then I would only attend the meetings that pertained specifically to me. Why would I work past my contract for the next year if I was not going to be there? There’d be no point.

Just don’t go after the important meetings that you mentioned. What are they going to do? You already are hired at your new job. Don’t go.

Oh I am. I mean I'm still going, and being professional about it. I'm even trying to give suggestions/ideas. I haven't once complained to my coworkers or made a fuss about it to them. In fact the only ones I've talked about regarding this was you guys and my P.

Funny--I am in the same situation. I had a dream last night that I just didn't show up to those meetings because I "forgot" about it.

I've killed the notification stream from my current school to my phone. That helped alot.
