Aughh... sorry about the title! If you are like me, seeing that word one more time might drive you insane!

Is anyone else hearing about this video game endlessly? I'm very ready to ban it as a topic in writing and class discussions as it is becoming the response to almost any prompt.
    Describe your favorite game: Fortnite
What did you do over winter break: Fortnite
If you could be anything when you grow up, what would you choose? Someone who plays Fortnite
Talk about a challenge you've faced and how you overcame it: One time, I had to face a very high level boss in Fortnite.

These are not real prompts or answers but they are fitting in with what I'm seeing in class from a few boys. Is it just my area?

All day. Every day. Every subject. It's endless and exhausting.

It's sort of funny since I teach HS and Fortnite became a "thing" about halfway through last year and is now "so last year" (according to high school sophomores who are obviously WAY TOO COOL to admit liking something their little siblings have picked up). I'm guessing the little ones will move on in a little while, too. Then it will be on to the next annoying trend o_O

A student asked me if I had heard of Fortnite. I misheard her and thought she was talking about Twelfth Night and asked her if she meant the Shakespearean play or the celebration twelve days after Christmas. She looked REALLY confused until I caught myself.

"Oh, you mean the video game with the dancing? I've heard about it, but apparently not that much."

My 8th graders can’t walk anywhere without breaking into Fortnite dances.

Seen plenty of fads come and go...but this one I am especially concerned about. I have never seen it effect a group of children so much. I don't see it as healthy. Less of the boys are playing sports at school and all they want to talk about is Fortnite. Try talking to them without mentioning Fortnite and they have a difficult time having a conversation. Yes, I am tired of it.

    I completely agree.

Other trends are annoying, but they aren't troubling. Dabbing was annoying but Fortnight has hit a point of actual addiction for some of my boys. I have students telling me they didn't go to sleep until 2 because they were playing Fortnite and I actually do believe them. Where are the parents telling them to go to sleep or limiting electronic time?

The same parents who want the schools to raise their kids. This video game is babysitting their kids for free so they probably don't want to mess that up!!!

And for those who don't agree...they can save their breath. There's no excuse for this.

That's just despicable and disgusting. Those kids deserve so much more than what they get at home.

    ^^^^
    These.

Fortnite hit my 7th graders like the plague last year. This year a few of the "cool" boys have deemed Fortnite "uncool" and have moved on to Grand Theft Auto... o_O

We're trading one evil for another. The government should just ban video games!

Also, the parents are probably just as addicted to CandyCrush or whatever they're all doing on their phones....just as bad as the kids.
