I have a link to a practice website if anyone would like to e-mail me. I just used it, and it's pretty dead on. I can't provide the link here, but you can e-mail me for it.

I just received my official score and I got a 196, I totally went back and changed some answers and now I'm driving myself crazy thinking that's what messed me up. Anyway I have the chance to do a verification session but I recently read in the news about the low % of the tests that get those scores reversed. Has anybody done this and had a successful outcome?

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to share my experience with this exam, with you. I am a career changer. I originally took the Elementary ED test and passed all but the English language arts. I received a 197. After taking it I had a good understanding of what kind of test it was; scenario based questions etc. I went back and took it 31 days later and passed. I have also passed the GKT with no issues. But, I have received a job offer for 7th grade English. I was immediately nervous about this test but chose to give myself 6 weeks to study. It is very difficult to find good study guides out there. I took the test yesterday and passed the multiple choice, of course, I am still waiting on the essay. I wanted to give my take on the test itself. It is strongly based in the elementary school test. A lot of the teaching strategies covered are found in the elementary English and reading study guides. If you are having issues I would look through those. The questions always seem to come down to two answers that both seem right. My best advice is take a breath and re-read those carefully. They are NOT both right. If you studied your strategies and techniques well, it will hit you that one answer is definitely not right. As for the questions about authors and specific works, there were very few. Those that were mentioned were very obvious for me. I remembered reading them in high school. There was only one I was unfamiliar with, however, the title gave away the answer very easily. I wouldn't suggest stressing about memorizing every great work of English literature. I would focus on teaching methods and strategies, technology used in the classroom and the implementation and purpose of various assessments. Hope this helps!

I wanted to add to make sure you know and understand the critical approaches to analyzing literature. It was in my study guide so I assume its in others. I think that might be what trips people up with the essay.

I took the exam first week of May and passed both parts - I really think many folks here are stressing out needlessly and that is affecting your outcome. The MC questions are pretty straight forward and you can always eliminate a couple of answers on each question. I agree that the study guide on the FLDOE website is useless - no relation to the test. I purchased on e of the FTCE prep tests mentioned above and took it the night before the test. Passing that gave me confidence that carried into the exam room. The essay question is not bad - there is no right or wrong answer. It just asks you to write about a passage from literature. Don't think you need to write too much - you will give yourself more chances to mess up. They allow 8000 characters - I used under 2500 and passed. If you try to fill the page you will end up rambling and will not pass. Now, about me. I am a 60 year old career changer who went to college 40 years ago. And, I was not an English major (accounting/economics). If I can do this, you can too. Relax.

Hello everyone! New to the thread and VERY thankful for all the advice I have read. I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on specific authors or books I should brush up on. As I take practice tests I do recognize a lot of the titles/authors from when I was in high school, but it has been a while so they aren't fresh. Any input would be amazing =)
