    Dear ___________:

I would like to be one of your elementary teachers. Please consider me as a candidate for the Kindergarten and fourth grade positions at ______________ school. In May of 2006, I graduated summa cum laude from ______________________. I am a dedicated teacher certified in elementary education and special education/inclusion.

As my resume indicates, I have taught in very diverse settings. I have student teaching experiences in general and special education classrooms, which makes me aware of and sensitive to the individual needs of my students. I have also taught in a rural area of Jamaica at a Basic School and an orphanage. As a result of this unique experience, I have developed superior communication skills among teachers, parents, and students. It has also enhanced my classroom management ability, resourcefulness and creativity with lessons.

When you speak with me about my teaching experiences, you will see that I am a very enthusiastic, inventive and positive educator. I love being a teacher, and I have a strong drive and devotion to the job! I would love to speak with you to learn more about the Kindergarten and fourth grade positions at ___________________ school. For more information about my instructional experiences, please contact me by phone at ### ### #### or via email at ________________.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to a favorable reply!

    Respectfully,

    Outstanding Teacher

okay linz17, don't freak out! You can do this. But please allow me to offer some constructive criticism on the letter you posted, that I think will help it to read a bit more professionally. First of all, when you begin, you need to start by saying something about why you are applying to that school/district. I mean, duh, of course you want a job, but they want to know why you want a job THERE. Then you have to find out what they are looking for (if not listed in the actual job posting, look for a job description on the web site or at least know the school/district's mission statement) and use words to describe your experience so it correlates to what they are looking for. Tweak your letter depending on whether you are prospecting or replying to a specific job posting. here's the cover letter I sent to the district where I ended up being offered the job this year. (By the way I am not trying to sound conceited about this, believe me, I have many other examples before this that got me nowehere...I had to learn from my mistakes!)

    ______

    Dear Mr. SUPERINTENDENT,

It is with great enthusiasm that I write to notify you of my interest in securing a second grade teaching position with ____Schools, as advertised on the district web site. I've heard nothing but positive comments about ___ School's reputation as a place where students are supported in every way to ensure their success. As an educator, that is exactly the type of teaching environment I want to be a part of.

I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from ____University where I received incredible training to prepare me as a teacher. As you can see from my enclosed resume, I’ve had student teaching experiences in first and second grade classrooms in both suburban and urban school districts. Since graduating, I have been a substitute teacher in K-5 classrooms.

These diverse opportunities have allowed me to gain experience in all aspects of teaching, including lesson planning, evaluating student performance and behavior, and implementing various classroom management techniques.

Prior to my education there, I worked for several years in corporate settings, which allowed me to develop excellent time-management and interpersonal skills which I bring with me into the classroom.

It is my goal to combine my range of experiences with my ability to be a professional, inspiring teacher who will make a positive contribution to your school district. I would welcome an interview and hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

    Regards,

    ________________

hope this helps! best of luck finding a job!!! :)

I love the changes you made for her but I would still highlight the specific experience she had in Jamaica. I think that will really help her to stand out.
