    What to study

I took the social sci tests and for the world history (section I) I found the barrons guide to the AP world history test very helpfull. It covered world religions, ancient civilizations, political movements, the works... I really think it saved me!... good luck to all.... I get my results back on Monday and I've been holding my breath for almost a month now.... keep your fingers crossed for me!

hi, i'm very interested in purchasing XAMONline for SS social studies. Could you please give me insight on this product and its effectiveness? I don't have money to waste, so your input could save me the $60 required to get this online book, thanks.

CSET Social Studies Single Subject prep materials

I "e prep" downloads are not too useful. Try Spark notes for US history test .

    CSET social science

Was the CSET social studies test hard? I have been taking history classes, watching videos, and doing history crossword puzzles to prepare. I haven't taken the CSET, yet. I have a feeling though that studying one book won't be enough.

Use the CA standards for Social Studies as a reference of what to study. World Hist, U.S. Hist. Econ & Gov. textbooks are also good resources. Good luck. Tula

Watch this one.... I would review language and the teaching of English to foreign students. Phonemes, language parts, terms like alliteration, metaphores, and personification. There really wasn't a lot about social sciences like child psych. That does not mean that it will not turn up. Look at Piaget, and Erickson... As for science review these books "Don't know much about American History" and the abridged tape version... Look at kids books on Cal History and ancient civilizations... Did not like those "everything your 6th Grader needs to know" too many questions and not enough answers to them...
    \Hope this helps

Hello people, Senior in college here, I passed the single subject social science a few months ago, and here is how it happened. I went online and tried to refresh my US history, US history is not as broad as world history, so it wasn't as difficult. Now, for world history and geography, I had a high school history book, read that one from cover to cover and I was set, its good to read this book, because its made to be simple (unlike college texts), for the econ section, I prayed, I have never taken a course in economics, I looked over a few books, I didn't pick up much, but knew enough to write a descent essay (I think that helped a lot) for the political science section, find a small poli scie book, one that goes to the point, and simple, I rather enjoy politics, so it wasn't that boring or difficult. Good luck to everyone

    Hey Elmer,

What world history book did you pick up? I am taking the US History test in November and subtests I & III in Jan. I haven't studied much for the US History test but am hoping you can give me some pointers.

    Thanks

A book that works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. You may need to spend some time in the local bookstore looking through what's available to see what will work for YOU. There are some outstanding atlases of world history - not cheap, but they'll help you see the history as well as reading about it, and give you a good resource for your future teaching into the bargain.

You could also play with concepts here. If there's something in the Subject Matter Requirements document that you just don't get, post a question about it here and let's get a discussion going.

Study the social science sample questions for US history and econ/poli-sci/CA history. Some of the sample questions provided on the CSET website were on the exam. Sorry, I can't help you with the world history section, I don't take it until Jan.

Check the bargain section of your neighborhood Borders or Barnes & Noble for [/i]Atlas of World History[/i]. Each store has a different book, but they're both good.

haleyfritz, I don't know about packaged e-prep, but I do know it's possible to do one's own fairly effective prep using the Subject Matter Requirements, the Internet, and a few other resources. Even better is to get together with others who are taking similar tests, live or online, and try to get a sense of the Big Ideas that make the little details make more sense.
