Some teachers just score the layout goldmine. My rooms have all had giant radiators, technology wired in weird places, a random sink in the only corner of the room, etc... My new classroom used to be a science lab. This means I have fabulous built in cabinets. But I also have 7 sinks  And the gas things for chemistry. And no wall space for a bookshelf. Oh, and the old teacher liked to duct tape things :tired:

Many teachers work hard for beautiful classrooms, don't get me wrong. But sometimes, no matter how hard you work, it is hopeless!

Sometimes a classroom layout is a work in progress. There should be room to grow into what the room will become. Clean, neat, easy to navigate on day one works well. Inviting and warm is wonderful. Perfect is, as noted above, sometimes the luck of the classroom lottery genie, and you can't control that. Let the class start to grow and change the space organically. It is about so much more than the right pictures. Let your class actually "show" you how your space will transform in the weeks ahead. YOU be beautiful in actions and interactions, and that is what your students and their parents will see and remember. "They may not remember what you taught them, but they will always remember how you made them feel." Just another NJ teacher! :hugs:
