I'm going to be interviewing for a 4th grade position. Currently I teach 2 year olds so a big jump. I have to give a 10-15 min demo lesson to the principal on something patriotic for 4th graders. I have been looking online but I'm so stuck. Does anyone have ideas or tips they could share with me please.
    Thanks

Maybe consider a fun cooking activity:
    -Making Patriotic Confetti Cake
    Or
    More educational.....
-Watch a Video about Patriotism and answer related questions (on handout or quiz-show style)
    Or
    More educational/Fun...
-Create a game of Kahoot where the topic is Patriotism
    Or
-Have the students read a reading passage about Patriotism and have them answer a few questions about the reading passage

Interpret the meaning of the text of the Pledge of Allegiance.

The P is most likely looking for direct teaching, not an activity. In my district, they’d also be looking fog cpnnected standards and some rigor.

Oh...thanks for informing me. Not what I'm used to, but it is a different district.

Would cake baking get someone hired in your district?

I mean, if you are wanting to become a high school FACS teacher or a Continued Education/Vocational Studies in High School Culinary Instructor.

This is for a 4th grade demo lesson LOL. And I would assume access to materials for baking would generally not be available to a 4th grade class. I could just see the looks on the face of the admin if you came in with eggs and flour and icing for your demo.

....or if I came in with a lamp and spoon full of sugar.

Thanks for replying! I really like that idea. What do you think about I was going to do the founding fathers and use the text you had recommended. I was thinking I would say I would have the children get into groups and assign each group a founding father. Have them read the book in their group and then work on the "Who am I?"
How does that sound? Should each child complete the who am I or each group?
    Thanks in advance
