I am going to be teaching 4th grade next year and need some lower level books as many of my students will be (according to their reading records) reading independently at a 3rd grade level. I, however, do not have many books in this range. What are some books you would suggest as "must haves" for 3rd through lower 4th grade reading level? I am really excited to be adding more books to my classroom library and can't wait to hear about some of the books you all suggest. I'm already ready to jump in the car and head off to the used book store where I can find most books for 75 cents and in great condition! wahoo! :)

My students (and I) really enjoy the "Magic Tree House" series. You can find them at different reading levels.

My son's in third and they read Flat Stanley. Not sure what the reading level is though. He also loves Judy Moody. I think it's nice to see a book with a female main character that boys can enjoy as well. Again, no idea on official reading level, just going by what my own third grader likes. Oh, and the A to Z mysteries are ones he likes as well.

Have fun building your library with whatever you end up choosing!
